Card Design Project

1. How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of playing card design?
My card design demonstrates my knowledge of playing card design because it shows many of the factors in bicycle cards. In all three of my cards there is a design of reflection and symmetry, which is exhibited into most playing cards. Also, for my picture card, I used a woman as the queen and vectored a crown also to make her be similar to the actual queen. Also, for my number card I used the typical heart pattern and symbol.
2. How would the rest of the deck look? What would you do for the other picture cards? Please describe in detail?
For my king card, I would use the man used in many of Roy Lichtensteins works with the women. I would do the same as I did with the queen and vector a crown and make it the same design. For the joker card, I would use the typical joker on a normal bicycle card and just design him to match my color scheme and design idea with the dots. For the jack, I would use a different man from Roy Lichtensteins art.
3. How does your design demonstrate your knowledge of adobe illustrator?
It demonstrates my knowledge of adobe illustrator because I used many of the tools. I used the rasterize and image trace tools to vector my images by then using the expand tool so I could change the colors and outlines. Then I used the live paint bucket tool to fill each section. I used the pattern tool for my polka dot pattern. I also used the shape builder tool to make my main bicycle design so it became one solid layer.
4. What do you feel was the most challenging part of this project and why?
I feel the most challenging part of this design was creating unity among the 3 cards and also developing a design for my theme that flowed naturally. This was the most difficult part because a typical card deck has many different designs but you can tell they all match, so since we were creating our own design it was hard to do that also.
5. If you can change one requirements what would it be and why?
The one requirement I would have changed was how we weren’t able to completely pick our own theme. Even though, I worked really well with my design and I had fun with it and am really happy with my design, I think other people that had trouble with their theme would have had a lot of more fun with the project if they were able to pick their design. You could maybe make a list and let people pick off of a list, instead of only getting 2 choices.
