Magazine Design Project

1.How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of Magazine Design and the parts of a magazine cover and interior?
The design that my partner and I created was a magazine which incorporated the use of high quality pictures, all the correct pieces that a magazine includes like cover lines, bylines and pull quotes, it fits the criteria of the project and goes above and beyond that with creativity.
In what ways does your magazine connect to the corporate identity of the magazine? What are some design queues that you used from the existing magazine?
The magazine that we created had a lot in common with the corporate design of the company. For my part of the design, which was the interior, I used about 15 percent negative space with a very simple layout. They make everything clean and sharp and I did that with all the pictures I included and the font choice and placement. Also, on the cover, one main thing we used from their corporate identity is how their main picture is a front facing picture.
How did completing the brainstorming packet and sketches affect your design process?
The brainstorming and sketches sped up my design process a lot because everything was just laid out there, right in front of me. So, instead of wasting time staring at the screen, trying to think of what to do next, I was able to get right along and the design process flowed very nicely.
How did you like working with a partner? How do you think working with a partner makes the design process easier and more difficult?
Although working with a partner might seem easier because there is a less of a work load, it definitely is not. Since my partner and I both have extremely strong opinions, we had trouble agreeing on cover lines and pictures and colors. Also, it was more difficult because one partner cannot really be way ahead of the other partner because the cover and interior had to match. I liked working with a partner but I prefer alone.
Looking at your partner’s design, if you were to design your partner’s portion by yourself how would it look different? What would you have changed?
If I was able to change anything for my partner’s design, I would first, fix the spacing of the words, and then align them differently because it looks a little weird to me and maybe use a different color because they are both very neutral.
Describe the ideal partner (co-worker / co –designer)?
The ideal partner would probably be someone that has similar opinions as you, but also likes to step out of the box and be different. I would want them to be able to step out of the box, so that way our designs could just balance off of each other and we could just bounce ideas off of one another. Also, someone that is very go with the flow and wants to compromise, rather than only doing what they want.
